Texas Education Code Texas Education Code – A teaching assistant or research assistant of any institution of higher education and the spouse and children of such a teaching assistant or research assistant are entitled to register in a State institution of higher education by paying the tuition fees and other fees or charges required for Texas residents under Section of this code, without regard to the length of time the assistant has resided in Texas, if the assistant is employed at least one-half time in a teaching or research assistant position which relates to the assistant's degree program under rules and regulations established by the employer institution.
Certification Previous Procedure - Procedures Faculty, teaching assistant or research assistant employees may request a waiver of non-resident tuition by: – Contacting the administrative assistant or equivalent from the department where the employee works. The department will then notify Fiscal Services via at and provide the following information for the employee requesting the – (1) Name – (2) Banner ID – (3) UT Employee ID (EID) – (4) Statement certifying that the employee’s appointment is at least fifty (50) percent time – (5) For teaching assistants or research assistants, a statement certifying that the employee’s appointment relates to their course work is also required, and – (6) The start and end dates of the appointment. If the waiver is not warranted, the department will contact the student with an explanation. New Process - Form
