KEY QUESTION KEY QUESTION: What problems did the new German democracy face?

The new democratic government in Germany was nicknamed the ‘Weimar Republic’ It faced a number of huge problems !!! FIRSTLY BLAMED FIRSTLY many Germans BLAMED the new Democratic Government for surrendering NOT ‘THE NOVEMBER CRIMINALS’Germany had NOT even been invaded! They called the new Government ‘THE NOVEMBER CRIMINALS’

SECONDLY SECONDLY— There were attempts at Revolution (trying to seize power) In Germany this is called a PUTSCH SPARTACISTS Communists In 1919 there was a serious Uprising led by the SPARTACISTS. The Spartacists were Communists They had many supporters BUT many Germans deeply feared & hated Communism

SPARTACISTS This is a POLITICAL IDEA about how best to run a country. EQUAL Under Communism everyone would be EQUAL and everything is shared. NO There is NO Private property NO There would be NO class differences (between rich and poor.) The Government runs the big industries, farms and factories for the people. This idea appealed in particular to the poor BUT it really scared the rich people and middle class.

The new Government had to end the Spartacist uprising quickly. Free Korps It did this by organising the Free Korps, a group of blood thirsty violent and nationalist, ex soldiers who hated Communism. They ended the Spartacist rising brutally, killing many and executing the main leaders.
