How do people get trichomoniasis? Cause by the single-celled protozoan parasite, Trichomonas vaginalis. Sexually transmitted through penis to vagina intercourse or vulva to vulva intercourse with an infected partner.

SYMPTOMS MEN: Women: Burning after urinations or ejaculation Itching of urethra Slight discharge from urethra Women: Discomfort with intercourse Itching of the inner thighs Vaginal discharge (thin, greenish-yellow, frothy or foamy) Vaginal itching Vulgar itching or swelling of the labia Vaginal odor

Treatment The antibiotics mentronidazole and Tinidazole can be used to treat Trichomoniasis One should not drink alcohol for 48 hours afterwards Avoid sexual intercourse until treatment is complete

Prevention Abstinence Condoms Intercourse with only one healthy partner

Complications Long-term infection could cause changes on the cervical surface Also common among people with HIV
