I Have Pre-Assessment Evidence...Now what? District Learning Day White Station High School 8:30 am – 11:00 am September 18, 2015

Do Now Write any questions you have regarding pre- assessment evidence and post it on the chart paper.

Norms Be present and engaged. Be respectful of differences in perspective while challenging each other productively and respectively. Monitor “air time.” Make the most of the time we have. Stay focused on students.

Objectives Know: There are methods for effectively organizing and streamlining the portfolio development. Understand: The thought process and possible “How-to” organize pre- assessment data. Be able to do: Group students into one of three categories (Exceeding expectations, meeting expectations, approaching expectations). Name files for easy identification. Create an organizational file structure on a device. Create a spreadsheet for performance tracking.

Context Destination 2025 aims for 80% of senior to be college and career ready, 90% will graduate on time and 100% will enroll in post-secondary opportunities. Language Study is a integral part to making this goal a reality for our students!

Context Language is integral to achieving D2025 goals: – 2 consecutive years of the same language are required for graduation. – Most universities require a MINIMUM of 2 years of language study – students with 3+ years in one language or multiple years of study in multiple languages can truly compete for scholarships and entrance in major universities. – Students headed to any sort of service career need language to diversify their clientele base which increases profits.

Context If we are to prepare students for D2025, then we must: Pay close attention to student growth because it gauges student learning. Provide focused feedback on linguistic development to aid students in increasing proficiency – our ultimate goal. Documenting growth is a part of your evaluation.

Objectives By the end of our time today, you should be able to do: 1. Group Students into one of three categories (Exceeding expectations, meeting expectations, approaching expectations). 2. Name Files for easy to identification. 3. Create an organizational file structure on a device. 4. Create a Spreadsheet for performance tracking.

Grouping students: Each evidence collection must have a sample from a student who is approaching expectations, meeting expectations, and exceeding expectations at the time of the PRE-ASSESSMENT.

Grouping students All students have to be grouped using data into one of three groups: Exceeding Expectations Meeting Expectations Approaching Expectations

Presenter Example DATA SOURCE USED: Exceeding expectations span: Meeting expectations span: Approaching expectations span:

Volunteer 1 Example DATA SOURCE USED: Exceeding expectations span: Meeting expectations span: Approaching expectations span: (add anything else that helped you decide how to group.)

Volunteer 2 Example DATA SOURCE USED: Exceeding expectations span: Meeting expectations span: Approaching expectations span: (add anything else that helped you decide how to group.)

Pairwork In partners, share how you are grouping your students? – What data did you use? – How did you define Exceeding expectations? Meeting expectations? Approaching expectations?

Reflection: What resonated with you? What is similar to your current practice? What is different than your current practice? What are you going to change as a result?

Objectives By the end of our time today, you should be able to do: 1. Group students into one of three categories (Exceeding expectations, meeting expectations, approaching expectations). 2.
