MondayOn page __ in your INB, list evidence of a chemical change. Pre-AP: Give an example of each. DO NOW VL: 0

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: Why is chemistry important? OBJECTIVES: Students will recognize that the properties of the reactants are different than the properties of the products in a chemical reaction. EQs & Objectives

AGENDA Pre-AP & Grade Level -Pyrite Lab Homework Chemistry Unit Test on Wed/Thrs

Pyrite Lab VL: 2 -Put on safety goggles. -Identify the physical properties of sulfur and iron using the hand lens, magnet, and ruler. Record on the data table. -Color -Size -Shape -Magnetism

Pyrite Lab VL: 2 -Using the triple beam balance, measure 4g of sulfur and 7g of iron.

Pyrite Lab VL: 2 -Mix the sulfur and iron together on one piece of paper. -Record the physical properties of the iron-sulfur combination. -Place the mixture in the test tube.

Pyrite Lab VL: 2 -Fill the beaker halfway full of cold water.

Pyrite Lab VL: 2 -Light Bunsen burner. -Using a test tube clamp, hold test tube over flame for 4-5 minutes. -Record observations on your handout. Be specific!

Pyrite Lab VL: 2 -Turn off Bunsen burner. -Immediately put the test tube in the beaker with water. -Follow the teacher’s instructions for retrieving the new substance.

Pyrite Lab VL: 2 -Examine the physical properties of the new substance, including the mass. Record data on your handout.

Pyrite Lab VL: 2 -Complete the Analysis and Conclusion questions on the handout. -If you do not finish, it is homework.

TuesdayOn page __ in your INB… 1.Describe what happened in the pyrite lab. 2.How do you know a chemical change occurred? DO NOW VL: 0

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: Why is chemistry important? OBJECTIVES: Students will review the chemistry standards. EQs & Objectives

AGENDA Pre-AP & Grade Level -Review Stations Homework PreAP: Finish Pyrite Lab CHEMISTRY UNIT TEST ON WED/THRS

Review Stations VL: 2 Students will go to each station and complete the assignments. The teacher will instruct you when to move to the next station. If you finish a station early, write a question and answer that could be used on the unit test.

Wed/ Thrs On page __ in your INB… 1.How many valence electrons does the following atom model have? 2.Name an element this element most likely react with? DO NOW VL: 0

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: Why is chemistry important? OBJECTIVES: Students will demonstrate mastery of TEKS 8.5 A-F. EQs & Objectives

AGENDA Pre-AP & Grade Level -Finish Station Review -Kahoot or Dry Erase Board Review -Chemistry Unit Test -Current Event -Chemistry TEKS Evaluation -Force and Motion Unit Page Homework PreAP: Finish Pyrite Lab CHEMISTRY UNIT TEST ON WED/THRS

Finish Stations Review VL: 2 Students will go to each station and complete the assignments. The teacher will instruct you when to move to the next station. If you finish a station early, write a question and answer that could be used on the unit test.

Kahoot/Dry Erase Board Review VL: 2 Review for Chemistry Unit Test

Chemistry Unit Test R ead and re-read the passage. U nderline the question B ubble important words I dentify the key idea, write it in margin. E liminate the wrong answers S elect the correct answer ✓ Mass of an object VL: 0

After Test: Current Event VL: 0 Read the Current Event Article at your table. Choose a special assignment or complete the Current Event Summary.

After Test: Chemistry TEKS Evaluation VL: 0 Rank your understanding of each TEK on a 1 to 5 scale, where 5 means you understand it very well and 1 means you do not understand it.

After Test: Chemistry TEKS Evaluation VL: 0 Rank your understanding of each TEK on a 1 to 5 scale, where 5 means you understand it very well and 1 means you do not understand it. For TEKS ranked 4 or 5, write down what activities helped them the most. For TEKS ranked 1, 2, or 3, write what would be helpful for them to better understand this standard.

After Test: Force & Motion Unit Page VL: 0 Decorate page __ in your INB for “Force and Motion”. The page must include the following: -Title the page “Force and Motion”. -5 colors -3 pictures -A 5 sentence description of what they know about force and motion or what to learn about force and motion.

FridayOn page __ in your INB list 3 of your favorite things about Chemistry. DO NOW VL: 0

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: Why is chemistry important? OBJECTIVES: Students will review and reflect on our Chemistry Unit. EQs & Objectives

AGENDA Pre-AP & Grade Level -Review Unit Test -Reflection -Force and Motion Unit Page Homework PreAP: Finish Pyrite Lab CHEMISTRY UNIT TEST ON WED/THRS

Review Chemistry Unit Test VL: 0 Teacher will go over the answers to the unit test. As the teacher reviews the test, the students will correct their answers and follow along.

Review Chemistry Unit Test VL: 2 After reviewing the test, the students will write 3 questions they still have about Chemistry. Students will share their questions with their table group. Students will then share their questions with the class.

Chemistry TEKS Evaluation VL: 0 Rank your understanding of each TEK on a 1 to 5 scale, where 5 means you understand it very well and 1 means you do not understand it. For TEKS ranked 4 or 5, write down what activities helped them the most. For TEKS ranked 1, 2, or 3, write what would be helpful for them to better understand this standard.

Chemistry TEKS Evaluation VL: 0 Students will chose 3 essential questions from the unit to answer. 1)How does the structure of matter affects its identity and properties? 2)How does the structure of an atom determine how elements are arranged in the Periodic Table? How is the Periodic Table arranged? 3)Why do atoms combine to form molecules? 4)What happens to atoms in a chemical reaction? 5)How do we describe and classify matter? 6)What is the difference between physical and chemical changes? 7)What are the signs that a chemical change has occurred? 8)How do we determine if a chemical equation is balanced or not?

Force and Motion Unit Page VL: 2 Decorate page __ in your INB for “Force and Motion”. The page must include the following: -Title the page “Force and Motion”. -5 colors -3 pictures -A 5 sentence description of what they know about force and motion or what to learn about force and motion.
