All the rules you will need to know. By Miller Tan

Alpine: Speed Disciplines To win you need the fastest time. Counted to the hundredth of a second. Since it takes place downhill, crashes can prevent skiers from going downhill. A skier may finish a race and get an official result as long as he or she retains at least one firmly-bound ski at the finish line.

Alpine: Downhill You must master speeds up to 90 mph. You are allowed training runs. Crashes are uncommon. Time differences can be a matter of hundredths of seconds.

Alpine: Super-G Short for super giant slalom. No training runs are permitted. Skiers must memorize the course quickly. Places are decided by pre-race draws.

Alpine: Technicle Disciplines Held as one-day two-run events. The skier with the fastest time for both runs is the champion of the race. High-speed crashes are extremely rare in the technical events, but falls and errors along the course mean it ispossible.

Alpine:Slalom The slalom event tests a skier's ability to maneuver quickly and efficiently down a ski slope scattered with alternating blue and red gates. The number of gates on a course is normally between for men, for women.

Alpine:Giant slalom The giant slalom features wider, but fewer turns. The number of gates is determined by the vertical drop of the course. As in slalom, the gates are set alternately blue and red.

Alpine: Super combined The combined event tests a skier's ability to handle both the speed and technical aspects of Alpine skiing. History shows that the combined winner was not necessarily the fastest skier in either of the two disciplines.
