School Direct Training 6 th September 2013 Mark Bagust Jane Waddup The Role of the Teacher
What do teachers make?
Think of why he/she made a particular impact. (It can be a positive or negative impact) Which teacher had the most impact on you?
Justify your choices of words by linking to the Teacher Standards Are there any other words you would add to the list? What are the key attributes of a good teacher?
You have 3 minutes to list as many aspects of a teacher’s role as you can 1.What are the core parts of the role? Link to the Teacher Standards 2.What will be your greatest challenges? So what do teachers ‘do’?
You know you’re a teacher when… You want to slap the next person who says, “Must be nice to have all your holidays and summers free” You can tell it’s a full moon without ever looking outside You believe that unspeakable evil will befall you if anyone says “My God the kids are calm today” Marking all A’s on a report card would make your life SO much easier
You know your teacher when… You can’t decide on names for your own children, because there is no name you could give a child that wouldn’t bring on high blood pressure the moment you heard it – especially BOYS!
It’s good to be a teacher because: You will smile 10 times every ½ hour. You will have light hearted exchanges 5 times each ½ hour. You will have ‘optimal flow experience’ (wow factor!) at least 10% more than other professions.
A good teacher… is kind is generous listens to you encourages you has faith in you keeps confidences likes teaching children likes teaching their subject takes time to explain things helps you when you are stuck
A good teacher…(cont’d) tells you how you are doing allows you to have your say doesn’t give up on you cares for your opinion makes you feel clever treats people equally stands by you makes allowances tells the truth is forgiving Descriptions by Year 8 pupils
