ACTIVE RELIGIOUS WOMEN’S ORDERS ANNE CZERWINSKI, EMILY DUMAS, SABRINA ANTONEY

WHAT IS AN ACTIVE RELIGIOUS WOMEN’S ORDER? Active orders are those who have direct contact with society. They pray and socially interact with the community. Examples: teaching, missionary work, and preaching These active orders have made a great impact in the world today. They are very respected and set an example for everyone.

FELICIAN SISTERS The Felician Sisters were founded in Warsaw, Poland in 1855 by Sophia Truszkowska who later became Mother Mary Angela Truszkowska. The mission of the sisters is to follow God’s call to work with Christ in spiritually renewing the world. The sisters can be identified by what they wear: brown habits, scapulars, brown and beige clothing, and the Felician wooden crucifix. Also, they live in convents. They participate in daily prayer and receiving of the Eucharist. Their ministry includes teaching, health care, social work, and campus ministry. They number over 900 members throughout the U.S., Poland, and Brazil. Mother Truszkowska was declared blessed in 1993 by Pope John Paul II.

PROCESS TO JOIN THE FELICIANS 1.Affiliation: living normal life while staying in contact with a sister to help discern 2.Postulancy: reside in the community, and participate in religious life 3.Novitiate: focus on prayer life, and learn the vows and rules 4.Temporary Vows: continue developing spiritual life 5.Perpetual Vows: choose to make full commitment to God and the Felician community

SISTERS OF THE HOLY CROSS The Sisters of the Holy Cross were founded in France on February 11, 1799, by Basil Anthony Moreau. The mission of the sisters is to raise awareness about justice issues. They examine the interconnections among theological issues. The sisters wear a black habit, black and white clothing, and a necklace in the shape of a heart with a cross. The sisters are located in many countries including Austria, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, India, and the United States. Basil was declared blessed on September 15, 2007.

SISTERS OF THE HOLY CROSS The sisters have love and adoration for God, by doing deeds and praying. They have a love for the cross and following the call of God. They have an intimate love for Mary and the holy angels. They are in charge of running Saint Mary’s College, an all girls Catholic university, in Notre Dame, Indiana.
