© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 3 Objectives Create Themes  As you learned in Chapter 1, documents you create in Word are based on a template called the Normal.dotm template.  This template provides default layout and formatting instructions and specifies the themes and styles that Word applies to your documents.

© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 4 Objectives Create Themes…continued  This default template includes a number of built-in or predesigned themes, some of which you have been using throughout the chapters of this textbook to apply color, change fonts, and add effects to content in documents.  The built-in themes that are available in Microsoft Word are also available in Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 5 Objectives Create Themes…continued  A theme is a combination of colors, fonts, and effects.  Within a theme, you can change one or all of these elements with the buttons in the Themes group in the Page Layout tab.

© Paradigm Publishing, Inc. 6 Objectives Create Themes…continued  You can use the default theme, named Office, change to one of the other built-in themes, or create your own custom theme.  A theme that you create displays in the Themes drop-down gallery under the Custom section.

Click the Create New Theme Colors option. 4. Select the new background, accent, or hyperlink colors. 5. Type a name for the custom color theme. 6. Click the Save button.
