Things to know for Freshmen… House Bill 5: We have new graduation requirements under House Bill 5. You will learn more about this and the impact that it has on your freshman during our November 3 rd “4 Year Plan Kick Off Parent Meeting”. This meeting will set the stage for planning your student’s next 3 years. Freshmen Initiative Our goal has been to work together to support the freshmen class. We have been doing this by: -meeting with freshmen individually regarding grades -the freshmen team has been holding weekly meetings with freshmen -creating a mentoring program to help freshmen that are struggling academically

Grades **Still on Recommended/Distinguished Graduation Plans. **More information broken down by grade level on our website. STAAR/EOC All students must pass English 1, English 2, Algebra 1, Biology and US History. Several retest opportunities throughout the year. PSAT NISD pays for all students to take in grades th grade is the important year for National Merit. Results in Dec-Jan. SAT/ACT It is recommended that students take the SAT/ACT in the Spring of their Junior year. District is paying for Juniors to take the ACT in the Spring.

Grades Dual Credit Can take in grade. May take two courses per semester. Counts as high school credit and college credit. Offered through NCTC at junior college price. Must have a 3.0 GPA and pass TSI to qualify. Does require early planning/registration. Depending on numbers, could either be face to face or online. Will have an informational meeting in the Spring What’s the difference between dual credit and AP? As of now, AP is weighted more than dual credit for GPA. AP credit depends on your test score and the college you attend. Dual credit hours may not be accepted at private or out of state universities.

FAQ’s How do I see my student’s grades? Why is my student failing? Do you offer tutoring? How/When do we change our schedule? Why is my schedule different for Sem 2? Why do I have two GPA’s? How do I request a transcript? Can we do a college visit?

Questions? Please complete a survey before you leave. Thank you for coming!!!
