Personal Introduction My name is David Cher, age 25 this year, and I am going to graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from NUS (National University of Singapore in July The usual path for people like me is to go for job interviews in order to find the “ideal job”. However, God has impacted upon my heart that this “ideal job” would involve a view towards serving long-term in Thailand. (Do read through Testimony of my calling to Thailand for more details) Why I am going? The question of “Why am I going to Chiangmai, Thailand?” brings me back to an exploration of my heart.

An extract from Testimony of my calling to Thailand: “I am now very sure about God’s short-term plan for me are, that is to serve in Thailand from July 2007 to either Dec 2007 or March Now, I am continuing to seek God with regards to His long-term plan for me (which I know is also Thailand). Then, 2010 came back to my mind and I believe that God will allow me to go back to Thailand long-term in At this point, doubts regarding finances entered my mind (how am I going to get sufficient finance for me to serve in Thailand long-term?). Then, God again spoke to me from Matthew 14:31 which says, ‘Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”’ God is telling me not to doubt and He will provide for my needs to start serving long-term in Thailand in 2010.” I am going to Thailand because 1) I believe it is God’s Will for me to serve Him short term in Chiangmai, Thailand from July 2007 to Dec 2007 or March ) I am seeking after God’s Will for my long-term plans to serve Him long-term in Thailand. It is not that I cannot seek after God here in Singapore but that I feel that I do have a real passion and heart for the Thais and it is not only based on feelings and emotions. 3) I want to bless the Thais in Chiangmai with the knowledge of the Gospel. What I will be doing? My focus in Chiangmai will be on the University students studying in Chiangmai. I will be forming relationships with them and at appropriate times/opportunities telling the Gospel directly or indirectly to them. If it is also possible, my ministry work may not be restricted to Chiangmai and it would be dependent on God-given opportunities to guide me to other areas where I can also be a blessing to the people in Thailand. Success in witnessing is taking the initiative to share Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results to God. Personal needs As I embark on this exciting yet very faith stretching “journey into the unknown”, I request that you who receive this letter do support me through 1) Prayer as I am sure that I will be facing not only human but also spiritual opposition, according to Eph 6:10-13 which says:”10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm…. Do pray for Thailand…. Pray for me to walk faithfully and steadfastly in the Lord even as I serve Him and minister to the Thai students in Chiangmai. In this light, also pray for me to be able to spend time with Him and to glorify Him in whatever I do and that I will also be able to “confirm” His long-term plans for me to serve in Thailand. I will be posting updates whenever possible and these updates will include prayer requests so that you can be constantly praying for me. 2) Material support: Up to this point, I am certain that I have enough finances to sustain my 6/9 months in Chiangmai, Thailand. But I do want to encourage you to be a part of my ministry in Chiangmai, Thailand in whatever way you deem best. P.S: I will be in NE Thailand for a mission trip from 2-26 June (You can also be praying for me as I go on this trip). You can approach me personally before June 2.
