Attachment: The virus attaches to the host cell on a specific receptor site. THE LYSOGENIC CYCLE

Injection: The virus injects it’s nucleic acid into the host cell.

Integration: The viral nucleic acid becomes integrated into the host cell’s DNA. This is called a PROVIRUS.

Hiding: As the host cell’s DNA replicates during the cell cycle, so does the integrated provirus. The new daughter cells also contain the viral nucleic acid.

Enters the Lytic Cycle: At any given moment, the provirus leaves the host cell’s DNA and takes over the cell’s metabolic activities.

Assembly: The viral nucleic acid forces the cell to make more viral particles.

Lysis: The virus particles burst out of the host cell, killing the cell.
