Accidental Festival Crowdfunding Campaign: Ideas and Strategy

Objectives To fundraise £1,500 through crowdfunding To reach to newer audiences through social media by engaging them with our campaign

What we need To find the correct crowdfunding platform To become confident on social media communication (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, blogging...) To identify our target sponsors To produce an exciting and insightful pitch for investors in written and film form To create a set of rewards for supporters and identify suppliers (if not possible for us to produce) To increase our online presence and our unique views on our webpage To mobilise the whole team to communicate our cause through the campaign

How to do it CHOSEN Crowdfunding platform 1: We Did This (5% fee) This is an “all or nothing” platform model which could put us at risk since we might leave with nothing. However, it is also the largest an only platform dedicated exclusively to art projects, therefore their viewers will be highly likely to back up our cause. DEBATED Crowdfunding platform 2: Sponsume (5-9% fee) Dedicated to all kind of projects. At the end of the period one can take any money fundraised, even if original target hasn’t been achieved. If target is achieved, Sponsume takes 5% fee of grand total. If target hasn’t been achieved, it takes 9%.

How to do it Creating a Facebook event and invite everyone to it Tweet to all crowdfunding experts asking for help covering our story Posting/tweeting throughout the campaign to all of our artists/followers/potential audiences/celebrities/industryfigures to tell their contacts to donate Upload video pitch to all possible platforms: YouTube, Vimeo, accidentalfestival.co.uk, crowdfunding platform Create blog to update supporters chase by the whole team to engage all our contacts family/friends/co-workers...

The Accidental Festival: A student led educational project bringing emerging and established artists the opportunity to showcase their work for free at The Roundhouse. From May 31 to June 3 The Accidental Festival came to life in 2006, with the goal to create a free platform for young artists from The Central School of Speech and Drama to present fresh and innovative work. It was such a success, that those involved realised that they wanted to give other artists like them the same opportunity to showcase their talent at amazing venues in London. Six years later, the Accidental Festival has now travelled across UK’s capital, being hosted at the ICA, BAC and the Roundhouse. The project has continued to grow, and has now hosted over 1,000 artists from the UK and overseas. This year we have invited emerging and established artists from all landscapes and disciplines to join us at The Roundhouse in Camden, with the solid purpose to share experiences and knowledge. How is this possible? Well, the students from Performance Arts are a bunch of young artist and producers, and we are supported by our school to produce this whole experience - we are the 2012 Accidental Festival Team! The festival never stands still; each year a new group is in charge of producing, programming, promoting, managing, discussing and dreaming bigger every year. It’s great! Emerging and established artists are performing next to each other; they meet and collaborate, share ideas, experiment... and at the same time young producers in training get to have the time of their lives doing what they love most, providing audiences with real, exciting art! However, each year the uncertainty surrounding the support given to the arts grows a little more, and the Accidental Festival’s future has become a question mark for next year. We don’t want this project to stop, and therefore we need your help to keep making it better, bigger, and more sustainable. How do we do this? Well, thanks to you! By participating in this campaign you will invest in the next generation of artists. The smallest donation will contribute to raising our festival’s profile, bringing more international artists, making art more accessible and reach out to newer audiences. If the festival is successful this year, its survival is guaranteed! Together we will ensure that this fantastic educational project keeps bringing resources and hope to those in the arts’ industry. We love The Accidental Festival, come and make it happen with us! The Accidental Festival 2012 Team
