The Importance of The Attack on Berlin  This battle led to the surrender of the Germans, and the suicide of Adolf Hitler. This resulted in the end of World War II.  The Battle of Berlin was one of the biggest battles in the Second World War and caused unbelievable amounts of destruction.  The numbers of the Soviet Army were absolutely astonishing. Russia had 2.5 million soldiers, 41,600 artillery, 6,250 tanks, and 7,500 aircrafts.

Key FiguresKey Figures  General Georgy Zhukov  General Ivan Konev -Was a very successful Russian General in WWII -He lead the Attack on Berlin in Spring of Was given a lot of credit for destroying the Nazis -Was demoted later on in 1946 because Stalin did not want anyone receiving more attention than him. -Was another very successful Russian General -He lead the attack on the South part of Berlin -Both Konev and Zhukov had fierce rivalries which benefited Russia as a whole -Was given the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union in the same year (1945)

Course of ActionCourse of Action  On April 15 th, 1945, Russia wanted to end the world war by taking over Berlin. The Russians quickly advanced to Berlin, Germany, with about 20 armies, 6300 tanks, and 7500 aircrafts, commanded by General Zhukov and Konev.  Joseph Stalin, the dictator of the Soviet Union, ordered General Zhukov and Konev to race their armies to Berlin. Russia obviously had a huge advantage in manpower, artillery, and arsenal.  Over two million artillery shells were fired into Berlin and the surrounding area in three weeks, and one million Russian infantry troops participated in the battle. Outcomes  This was the ending of WWII  Hitler ended up committing suicide  About 80,000 Soviets died and approximately 100,000 Germans living in Berlin passed away  More than one million people were left homeless across Berlin  Soviet soldiers ended up killing and raping many more Berlin citizens in the following couple of days  Food supply was extremely low leaving many Berlin citizens to die of hunger
