Welcome to Kindergarten! Mrs. Simmons’ Class Oakleaf Village Elementary Room 522

Kindergarten Tips Daily Folder: Your child will have folder that needs to be initialed and returned each day. Inside you find a behavior calendar that will be colored green/yellow/orange/red daily. Corresponding numbers for yellow, orange, red will be noted on that day. Please initial this box each day. Classroom and school wide information will be sent home via the folder. Please send a spare set of clothes for your child in a labeled ziploc bag in case of an accident or spill. If you are able to supply your child with a pair of headphone to keep at school, it is encouraged.

Kindergarten Tips Your child will have a “Leader of the Day” that will rotate on a daily basis for each child. They will bring a guessing jar and a show-and-tell. If you can help, check out my “Wish List” on our class website. It will be updated on a regular basis as supplies are needed for classroom activities. Thank You!!

Attendance & Tardies Students are tardy if they enter the classroom after 8:30. Please have student obtain a tardy pass from the front office. Please send a note for absences, otherwise it will be UNEXCUSED. The note should include your child’s name, date absent, reason for the absence and a parent/guardian signature.

Dismissal If students have a change in dismissal, you MUST send in a note. We may not send a child to a different place without a note.

Medicine ANY AND ALL MEDS GO TO THE NURSE IN THE CLINIC –This includes: Prescriptions Cough Drops Tylenol Allergy medicine / Eczema Lotions

Birthdays On your child’s birthday you may send in cupcakes or cookies. Per school handbook birthdays snacks must be store bought. Please let me know in advance if you are bringing in a snack, so we can work it into our schedule.

Behavior Plan –Green – Ready to Learn – students will begin here each day and will remain if he/she follows rules/directions. –Yellow – Make Better Choices/Think time – student needed multiple reminders to follow rules/directions and continued behavior –Orange – Teacher’s Choice- student will be removed from the group or activity –Red – Parent Contact – teacher will contact parents and depending on severity of offence, a referral may be necessary.

Calendar Your child will receive a monthly calendar that tells you what we will be studying that month, along with any important events. Please check your child’s calendar for their resource schedule (A-F listed each day) and dress appropriately (i.e. shorts and tennis shoes for P.E.). We will have media each Tuesday. When library books come home, they will be due back on Tuesdays.

Visitors/Volunteers All parents, visitors, and volunteers must sign in at the office and pick-up a pass BEFORE entering classrooms. Per county policy, siblings are not allowed in the classroom during school hours.

Snack Math Snack math is a group snack for the first quarter of school. We will practice counting and sorting with our snacks. Donations of snacks are appreciated! We can use cheerios, Trix, Fruit Loops, Apple Jacks, Goldfish crackers, pretzel sticks, Cheez-Its, and Teddy Grahams. We have a water fountain in our classroom, please do not send a drink.

Growing Great Writers Encourage writing at home. Point out letters, words, and sounds everywhere you see them. DO NOT spell for your child. In kindergarten we encourage sound spelling. It is an important developmental stage for your child. Spelling for them discourages them from hearing the sounds on their own and lowers their confidence level to write on their own. Practice sight words at home – say them, write them, find them, spell them…
