Quick Passing Game

Base Quick Game Philosophy Softest Cushion-How loose will DB play, what do they give you by alignment? Easiest throw-Shortest throw Best match ups-Do you have a money guy, do they have a weak defender that you can pick on? Open spaces-Where is the largest open area? Where do you see the most grass? Where is the most pressure coming from? Run screens and shuffle to that area. Run them early and often. Do not let the Defense get into a groove!

Routes Quick game routes mirrored except for Stick Series Slant- 2 0r 3 step vertical then slant under control, not to a defender! Curl Flat- Slant to curl at 9 yards, 2 step out route. Hitches- 5 yard stops Slant Corner- Slant to stop at 4 yards, corner at 5 yards to 18 yards. Sticks/Y/H- Stick rules apply/Hitch/Flare Read 4 Verticals- Run deep to the seam Shuffle Pass to either back, A/H or C/D gap

Quick Passing Game consists of: 1. Outside Screens-All Receivers and Running Backs 1 Screen each/Same blocking scheme for each screen for OL simplicity. 2. Middle Screens-Same as above. 3. Blitz Beaters-Short completions that take advantage of pressure. 4. Shuffle-Passes that take advantage of hard inside or outside rushers. 5. Eight easy route combinations that can be thrown quickly against all coverages. High percentage passes that do not require a lot of thought or skill. 6. Line protection is hard set or cut. Big on Big. Can use 1 or 2 Back Protection.

Important Reminders Throw screens to perimeter to make defense work to cover field Choose a side Pre-Snap and stay with it. Nobody open, find back check down or run! 3 seconds is all you will ever get. Throw Quick passes to receivers that can beat a man 1 on 1 QB must find best match up or the area that is open Quicks can be thrown even if the defense does not pressure QB must recognize pressure side and try to throw to it

Important Reminders No play check to slow timing of defense and to force recognition Have a fake check system to confuse defense Cut protection gives defensive front another look/ DL hates it! Must work your base Quick Game every day at least 15 minutes vs. man and zone concepts. 2 QBs throw at the same time to opposite side. Do not attempt more than you can work on in a 15 minute period.

Y-Stick vs. Zone Coverage

Coaching Points Y runs a 5 yard stop or slant reading the Mike Lb. If Lb drops Y stops and catches in the hole. If Lb runs, Y slants at 5 and gets vertical in the seam. F back runs a quick flare 2 yards outside of Ys alignment, looking for the ball quick. H back runs a return route and reads Will. If Will drops, H sits down at 4 yards where Lb was. If Will drops, H sits down at 4 yards where Lb was. If Will chases, H runs vertical in seam. X and Z get vertical fast and hard. QB reads Y to F to H

Y Stick vs. Man Coverage

Man Coverage Reminders 1. If LB’s are chasing or running it is Man coverage 2. Man adjustment-Do not stop a route, run through and get open 3. If Inside receiver sees blitz try to bend route to get to vacated area 4. Recognize man coverage looks and have a Zero adjustment to score 5. If Mike over runs front side, QB must look to go backside to option slant
