How to classify matter? Science 3B Unit 1 Lesson 3

Classifying means... Sorting things into similar groups.

We can sort matter into... Solid Liquids Gases Even weird stuff like plasma!

When we talk about solids, liquids and gases... We are talking about states of matter.

Each state of matter... Can be described by its particles. Particles are pieces that make it up.

Solids Solids are made of parts that are packed close together The parts don’t move too much. Solids have a certain shape that they stay in.

Liquids Are made of parts that are loosely packed. They can move around. Liquids take the shape of the container they are in. Liquid particles can slide around.

Gases Gases will take the shape of any container that you put them in. Pieces that make up gases fly around in every direction, they never sit still This is good news! That means air will always be moving around our nose!
