What are Early Learning Standards? Developmental benchmarks (milestones, behavior, skills, etc.) Learning guidelines (for the teacher) Educational goals (“client success”) Learning objectives (accountable) Definition: Standards outline expectations for children’s learning & development Not “teaching to the test” Ex: Comprehensive learning goals for 4 y/o’s (Fig. 6.1, p. 155)

Standards Can Be… From a state organization (Federally funded HS programs) From a professional organization (NAEYC) Created by a private organization (for profit- BH programs) From a school district (LAUSD)
