Weimar Republic constitution of the Weimar Republic was signed in Germany 1919 lasted 14 years set up by the treaty of Versailles forced democracy drafted by German leaders led by a chancellor

Chancellor The chancellor led the parlimentary system which was set up by the constitution and was also known as prime minister. Hitler then became the new chancellor of Germany on January 30, Prior to Hitler becoming chancellor, Franz von Papen and Kurt von Schleicher were chancellors.

Chancellor Hitler only wanted a position in high rank in order to make himself known. He then wanted to use his power to get rid of the Weimar Republic and set up his own rules and regualtions, which he did.

Political Struggle......! The republic faced severe problems: Germany had many small parties. Communist demanded radical changes like the ones Lenin had made. The rich people demanded changes because the gov. was to weak and liberal. People wanted a strong leader like Bismarck.

Ruhr Valley! The ruhr valley happened because of economic disaster fed unrest. In 1923 when Germany fell behind in reparations payments, France occupied the coal rich ruhr valley, in the ruhr valley. Workers refused to work.The government started printing money so they could pay the workers.

Recovery With help, the government brought inflation under control United States gained British and French approval to reduce reparations payments from Germany The Great Depression hit and brought back terrible memories of 1923 Germans turned to Hitler hoping for restoration

Rise of Nazis Hitler went to Germany and fought in the German army He joined a small group of right wing extremists Within a year, he became the unquestioned leader of the National Socialist German Workers, or Nazi party Hitler organized his supportive people into fighting squads. "storm troopers" fought against their political enemies in the streets

Adolf Hitler Hitler was the Dictator of Germany during WWII and started the Holocaust Adolf as a child was one of the bright kids in his school. He slowly started failing as he got older and after his dad died. Third Reich When Hitler came to power, he called it the Third Reich. He said " the German master race will dominate Europe for a thousand years." Hitler started a crash program to rearm the German army, and tried to unite Germany and Austria To achieve his goals he organized a brutal system of totalitarian rule All areas of German life, the Nazi controlled

Gestapo The German secret police Caught and eliminated all oposition of Germany Cheered Hitler's power and the fixing of unemployment and reviving the German power. Anyone who worried about Hitler's terror quickly was a victim of his terror.

Nuremberg Laws The Nuremberg Laws were passed in These laws took away German citizenship from Jews and placed many restrictions on them. Some restrictions were that Jews couldn't: Marry non-Jews Attend or teach at German schools Hold government jobs Practice law or medicine Publish books

Kristallnacht "Night of Broken Glass" On November 7th, 1938 a young Jew shot a German diplomat in Paris after his parents were mistreated. Hitler used the incident to attack all Jews on November 9th and 10th. Known as the "Night of Broken Glass," Mobs led by Nazis attacked Jewish communities.

To prepare for the future Hitler, taught young people about what he believed in. A way the Nazi prepared the young Aryans was through passionate speeches. The Nazi Youth were so tired from attending the Hitler youth that they could not stay awake at school the next day. By 1936 the organization held 4 million members. The boys were taught how to shoot a pistol, avoid gas, and read maps.
