Some of the settings in The Hunger Games are  Katniss’s House: Katniss lives in the Seam part of District 12. Katniss’s house is on the very edge of District 12 near the woods that surround the district.  The woods: The woods surrounding district 12 are said to be very dangerous with poisonous snakes, rabid animals and no real paths to follow. Katniss and Peeta hunt in the woods for food.  The train: The train is a very fast moving transportation device that is very lavish. The train transports Katniss and Peeta from District 12 to the Capitol for the Games. Katniss and Peeta also ride the This is what I think the train looks like.

 Katniss Everdeen is the main protagonist in The Hunger Games. She is a major and dynamic character. She is 16 years old. She has brown hair and gray eyes. She lives in district 12 with her mother and her 12 year old sister Prim. Her father died in a mine explosion when Katniss was 11. Her best friend/crush is Gale Hawthorn and her crush is Peeta Mallerk. Katniss is very good with a bow and arrow. When her sister is chosen as a tribute for the Hunger Games,Katniss volunteers in her place. During the Games she finds out Peeta has a crush on her but she thinks its an act to get them sponsors.

 Gale is 18 years old. He is a protagonist/static character. He has brown hair and gray eyes. His best friend/crush is Katniss. He is the oldest of four children. Like Katniss he lives in District 12 with is family. He is not chosen to participate in the Hunger Games but he does come to wish Katniss off when she is in the justice building after the reaping. After the reaping he is not seen until the end of the book but Katniss does think of him often.

 Peeta is 16 years old. He is a protagonist. He has blond hair and hazel eyes. His crush is Katniss Like Katniss and Gale he lives in District 12. Petta lives with his mother, father, and brother. Peeta’s father is the baker for District 12. He often trades his bread for one of Katniss’s squirrels. When Peeta was around 12 he gave a starving Katniss two loaves of bread. During the interviews Peeta reveals he has a crush on Katniss.

 Haymitch is the a protagonist in The Hunger Games. Haymitch is 40 years old. He is a major/ static Character. He has blond hair and blue eyes. Haymitch is the only living winner of the Hunger games from district 12. When we first see Haymitch during the reaping he is drunk and falls off the stage. He is once again drunk when the Characters get on the train to the capitol. Before the games start he tells Katniss and Peeta to spread out and put as much distance between them and find water. In the beginning Haymitch isn’t very fond of Katniss but he grows to love her during the games.

 Rue is a semi-major character in The Hunger Games. She is also a protagonist and static character. She is 12 years old and has dark brown hair and brown eyes. She is from district 11. Although rue is very small she makes up for it in agility and swiftness. She forms an alliance with Katniss during the games and helps her to destroy the careers food supply. However while Katniss is gone Rue gets caught in a net. When Katniss comes to free her she,Rue, is speared in the stomach. Katniss sings a lullaby to Rue as she dies. After Rue dies Katniss covers her body with flowers.

 In the beginning Katniss a 16 year old who lives in the poverty stricken District 12 volunteers to take her younger sister Prim’s Place in the annual Hunger Games. Peeta Mallerk,a boy Katniss has encountered once before, is also chosen as a tribute. The tributes board a very fast train to the capitol. On board they get to know their mentor Haymitch Abernathy the only living person from district 12 to win the Hunger Games. When Katniss arrives at the capitol she meets her stylists Cinna who takes a liking to her. Katniss and Peeta are then taken to the training center where they will stay until the games begin. At the training center Katniss and Peeta both learn new skills to help them at the games. Later the tributes do interviews with Ceaser Flickerman. During Peeta’s interview he confesses his love for Katniss which gets the audience cheering. The next day the Games begin. At the cornucopia Katniss only manages to grab an orange backpack which has a sleeping bag, some food and a container for water with no water in it. For the first day and a half Katniss has no water and slowly begins to die of dehydration. Just as she’s about to die she stumbles upon a small pond. She gets some water then heads to sleep in a tree. While in the tree she sees the Career Tributes kill the female from District 8. She then discovers that Peeta is helping them. After the Career Tributes leave a huge fire erupts. Katniss is mildly burned but she manages to escape. However the career tributes and Peeta. find her and chase her up a tree. The career tributes don’t leave and set up camp under the tree. While Katniss is in the tree she spots a traker jacker nest. She cuts the nest free causing it to fall on the career tributes and Peeta, stinging them. Glimmer the girl from district 1 and the girl from district 4 die from the stings. After they die Katniss takes Glimmers bow and arrow. She is almost attacked by Cato but Peeta saves her. This is Katniss at the Reaping.

 After Katniss gets the bow and arrow from Glimmer she runs into Rue the girl tribute from District 11. After sharing a meal they become allies. The next day they devise a plan for Rue to distract the career tributes while Katniss destroys their food supply. Katniss reaches the food supply and after watching Foxface the girl from district 5 Katniss learns that the supplies are mined. Katniss shoots an arrow into a bag of apples causing them to fall and the mines to explode. The explosion knocks Katniss to the ground and costs her hearing in her left ear. After blowing up the food Katniss heads off to find Rue. When she finds Rue she is tangled in a net. Before Katniss can free her the boy from district 1 spears her. Katniss then kills the boy from district 1. As Rue dies Katniss sings her a lullaby. Before the hovercraft comes to take the body Katniss covers it with flowers. As Katniss leaves Claudius Templesmith the host of the games announces that if two people from the same district are alive by the end of the games then they will both be crowned victors. Katniss immediately sets off to find Peeta. She later finds him buried in mud and badly cut on the leg. She finds a cave to nest in and she heals Peeta back to life. They also share their first kiss with each other. While tending to Peeta Claudius makes an announcement inviting all the tributes to a “feast” at the cornocopia. Knowing Peeta will never let her go Katniss finds some special berries that knock Peeta out. She then makes her way to the Kornucopia. When she gets there she sees backpacks with each tributes district on it. Before she can get to hers however Clove the girl from district 2 atacks her. Before Clove can kill Katniss however Thresh the boy from district 11 grabs Clove and bashes her skull in. This is Katniss singing to Rue as she dies.

 After killing Clove Thresh questions Katniss about her relationship with Rue. Katniss tells Thresh about how they blew up the Career’s food and how rue was killed and Katniss sang her to death. Thresh decides to let Katniss live and runs off with his pack. Katniss takes off with her pack just as Cato, Cloves partner, bursts into the clearing. When Katniss makes in back to the cave she passes out due to blood loss from an injury Clove gave her. When she wakes up the Gamemakers have created a huge thunderstorm. For the next 2 days the rain continues to pour. When it stops Katniss and Peeta decide to go look for food. While they are out a connon sounds and the hovercraft comes and takes Foxfaces dead body. Katniss realizes that Foxface ate some posinous berries Peeta had gathered thinking they were edible. Eventually Katniss and Peeta make their way back to the cornucopia where they encounter Cato and wolf like Muttations with the DNA of dead tributes. Katniss and Peeta safetly climb the Cornocupia but Cato slips and is attacked by the muttations. After a few hours Katniss shoots him in the head with an arow to end his suffering. Katniss and Peeta are confused when they are not crowned victors. Then Claudius comes on and says that their can only be one winner. Katniss and Peeta then decide to commit suicide by eating posinous berries. Before they can swallow them however Claudius comes on and declares them victors. Peeta and Katniss are taken onto a medical hovercraft where Peeta is operated on. After Peeta’s operation Katniss and Peeta have a final interview with Ceasar Flikerman. When the interview is over they get back on the train to district 12. While the train stops for refuling Katniss and Peeta take a walk together. While they are walking Peeta finds out that Katniss’s feelings for him weren’t real. Peeta becomes angry and dosen’t talk to Katniss until they are about to get off the train. As they near the station Katniss thinks about how life will be from this point on. She then grabs Peeta’s hand and says she dreads the moment she will have to let go.

 The Hunger Games desplayes many instances of Man vs Nature. In the beginning Katniss and Gale must go aganst nature to hunt for food for their familes. The Hunger Games itself is a very big example of Man vs Nature. The tributes are constantly
