Should media copyright laws be more strictly enforced? Compose and copyright CD, Produce instrumentals, Film Music Video By: La’Vell Williams

Why I chose my topic  Interest in piracy and who is affected  Figure out the process of getting material copyrighted  Learn about copyright laws and penalties

Research  Media piracy includes the illegal downloading of music, movies, and software.  The two primary organizations that monitor the downloading of music and movies are the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

Research  There can be serious legal and financial consequences to illegal downloading.  These can include: up to five years in jail, fines and charges of up to $150,000 per file, and any other charges that might be brought up in court.

Research  When software is pirated, consumers, software developers, and resellers are harmed  Piracy is a form of theft and robs people of their works.

Obstacles With Paper  Topic Decision  Time Management  Paper Revisions (spacing and citation errors)

Successes  I did well on my paper and am satisfied with my work.  Finished all work on time.

Link From Research to Product  Getting a CD copyrighted relates to my research topic because it deals with piracy.  Getting my own music copyrighted will allow me to understand how an artist would feel if their hard work was stolen.

My Product

Steps of Product  Chose product  Find mentor  Meet mentor and learn basics of beat production  Record all songs  Make music video

Steps of Product (cont.)  Make CD artwork  Get CD copyrighted  Promote CD  Gather all work and get ready to present project.

Reflection  Project was a great learning experience  Learned that creating instrumentals is very hard work  Made valuable connections in the music industry

Thank you for your time
