Educational Template Chapter 7 Health Informatics Standards Anne Casey Chapter 7 – HI Standards

Key Concepts Chapter 7 – Key Concepts In Chapter 7 the key concepts include : eHealth Nursing Informatics Informatics Standards Nursing Systems

Learning Activity Type Chapter 7 – Learning Activity Type Assimilation & Role Based Activities : Exercise 1 = Assimilative - Getting started Exercise 2 = Productive - Informatics solution focused Exercise 3= Interactive/adaptive - Accelerated learning

Anticipated Value Chapter 7 – Anticipated Value A learning opportunity to reflect on the HI practice standards, the integration of ICT into clinical practice, and HI specialist standards including standards for semantic content, data structures, data interchange, security and safety as presented in Chapter 7 on Health Information Standards. Exercise 1, 2 and 3 offers you an opportunity to demonstrate how well you understand the topic and provide you with dedicated time to reflect on the unique contributions of nursing to the informatics domain

Assessment Exercises Chapter 7 – Assessment Exercises Before you begin consider these three questions and revisit them when you have completed your reading. What are the main purposes of health informatics standards? Develop a Wordle to illustrate the purposes. Health informatics standards help to ensure that health specific applications used by clinicians, patients and citizens are safe, usable, and fit for purpose. They support interoperability between systems so that information communicated electronically can be accurately interpreted and used for decision-making, continuity of care, and other purposes. Exercise 1 How many different types of HI standards can you list? Add to your Wordle. Exercise 2 Think about some of challenges for nurses of using health IT in clinical practice. Do you think there is a role for standards in solving some of the problems? Develop a table matching clinical challenges to the type of assistance standards can provide. Exercise 3
