Course Description  This course familiarizes students with the scientific basis of exercise and fitness physiology, and related human anatomy including cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. Students learn energy metabolism as it relates to exercise and how aging affects human physiology, exploring current strategies in exercise and fitness training to facilitate disease prevention and healthy aging.

Course Outcomes  Upon successfully completing this course, you will be able to:  Describe the components of physical fitness and performance  Define the process for evaluating health status  Discuss energy metabolism and activity related changes  Correlate cardio-respiratory fitness guidelines with exercise and fitness requirements  Evaluate current strategies used in aerobic and anaerobic training

Projects  There are 2 projects as well as weekly exercises due for this class The two projects are due in Units 7 and 9. Your final project (unit 9) involves a trip to your local fitness center Most of your exercises require your Fit to Be Well book and involve conducting and interpreting lab results

Early Postings Are Critical Discussion Board Participation Rubric  Students are expected to post a Minimum of three posts per unit discussion thread. one post in response to the instructor’s question by EOD Saturday two posts in response to two classmates by EOD Tuesday, end of unit

LATE POLICY  Late work will NOT be accepted unless there are clear and compelling extenuating circumstances.  You must contact your instructor immediately—prior to the assignment/exam/quiz due-date unless prevented from doing so by emergency circumstances.

LATE POLICY  Examples of extenuating circumstances are serious personal and/or family illness/hospitalization, death in the family, weather-related evacuation/emergencies, work emergencies, and issues related to active military assignment.  Personal computer/software/internet connectivity issues and course blocks are not considered extenuating circumstances.
