Demographic Statistics: Facts (data) about people that can be counted.

I. Birth Rate: A. Example 14 per 1000 The number of live births per 1000 people.

II. Death Rate: A. Example 7 per 1000 The number of deaths per 1000 people. B. When birth rate is higher than death rate, the population is expanding. When birth rate is lower than death rate, the population is shrinking. Birth Rate - Death Rate = The Rate of Natural Increase or B – D = RNI

III. Infant Mortality Rate: A. Example 4.2 per 1000 The number of children that die before their 1 st birthday per 1000 live births.
