Graduation Requirements New York State requires a minimum of 1 High School Credit in a Foreign Language Must pass a high school FL course or Pass the Second Language Proficiency Exam in June ESM recommends that all students complete a Regents sequence in a Foreign Language

SPANISH 1 Checkpoint A according to the NY State Syllabus Communication is the main focus Speaking Listening Reading Writing Basic communicative vocabulary for real life situations A little Grammar Explore a variety of different cultural topics

GRADING POLICY Homework& Classwork Participation 30% Quizzes 30% Tests 40%

STUDYING Vocabulary should be studied every night! 5 words a night for 10 – 15 minutes Encourage your children to get the information out of their notebooks and do something with it. Have them: Teach you or a sibling Draw & label pictures Make flashcards Create games, mnemonic devices, songs, etc… Recognize the Spanish used right here in their own communities. (TV, Radio, Newspapers, Ads, etc…)
