Sustainability… by design, not by chance.

Regrettably, most efforts to improve student outcomes through professional learning and development are short- lived. For improvement to be sustained, short-term perspectives need to be extended to more distant horizons… Sustainability depends both on what happens during the professional learning experience and on the organisational conditions that are in place when external support is withdrawn. Teacher Professional Learning and Development (BES), H Timperley (summary)

Purpose To plan for sustaining quality leadership and assessment practices – by viewing sustainability from the perspective of different stakeholders in the school (building on the thinking you did around sustainability last seminar)

How? Socio- drama

Role perspectives: 1.Student (think specifically about the ‘target’ groups for this PLD) 2.New teacher or beginning teacher 3.Teacher 4.Teacher leader 5.Senior leader (take own notes)

Socio drama Regroup into school groups … Feedback the key points of each perspective 1.Student 2.New teacher or beginning teacher 3.Teacher 4.Teacher leader 5.Senor leader

What are the things I need to be in place in order to be, and continue to develop as, a self-regulating, effective learner? (Students) What are the things I need to be in place so that, in a year’s time (and beyond), every student will continue to develop as an assessment-literate, self-regulating learner. (Principal, teacher leader, teacher) What are the things I need to be in place to learn and put into practice the AfL principles that are important to my new school? (New teacher or BT)
