Living in Ancient Greece How would it have been if you lived in Ancient Greece nearly 3,000 years ago? It may seem very different, but their culture has influenced our lives today.

The Greek Alphabet The ancient Greeks were great builders, thinkers, and mathematicians. The Greek alphabet is rather unusual, but if you look carefully, about half the letters are familiar to us. Those are the ones we borrowed from the Greeks.

Greek Influences Some Greek influences are obvious. Thousands of modern banks, government buildings, and other structures, for example have the familiar columns of classical Greek temple architecture.

Olympic Games Every four years, most of the earth’s nations, Western and non-Western alike, take part in the Olympic Games, inspired by and still featuring many of the same events of the original Greek version.

Greek Culture and Modern Life Each time we attend the theater, or work out in a public gym, or compete on a track team, or listen to a political speech, or go to the polls to vote, or read a novel, or discuss philosophy, or study atoms, or solve problems using logic, we are doing things the Greeks invented over three thousand years ago!
