Diction in Poetry Diction: a writer’s choice of words. Wordplay: clever use of multiple meanings of words to express ambiguities

Homework Following the style of “The Frog Prince,” write your own poem based on a famous fairy tale or nursery rhyme. Try to give the original story a humorous twist while at the same time conveying an insight about life. Your poem should also mirror Smith’s use of diction/wordplay – 2 different words

“The Frog Prince” and “Not Waving But Drowning” by Stevie Smith–pg Use the graphic organizer to summarize each stanza of Smith’s poems. Analyze Smith’s use of wordplay (next slide has directions)
