August 3, 2006 MTAC Workgroup #95 FAST for Periodicals Update

MTAC #95 Agenda Progress Integration with PostalOne! and Mail.dat Next Steps

MTAC #95 Progress FAST has worked with the industry to accommodate the different roles within the mail preparation process:  FAST for Periodicals online software will be released in Oct –Enhance the functionality for current Periodicals appointments –Support “controlled” pilot: The pilot will occur in the New York Area with one or two additional facilities to validate air freight scenarios Planned Participants include: TIME Inc. Crain Communications Quebecor World Hassett Air Quad Graphics FAST continues to work through the Partial/Split load Air Freight Scenarios with mailing community and Business Mail Acceptance (BMA).

MTAC #95 Mail.dat and Recurring Appointments Customers will have the ability to leverage Mail.dat content for Recurring Appointments:  Scheduler inputs logistics information online within FAST.  FAST will provide a unique recurring sequence ID.  Scheduler communicates the recurring sequence ID to the Mail Owners.  Mail Owners input the recurring sequence ID into the “Reservation #” and Induction Date into the “Desired Induction Date” fields into their mail.dat.  Mailer submits mail.dat to PostalOne!  PostalOne! communicates the content information to FAST. Integration with PostalOne! is expected to occur in January 2007

MTAC #95 Next Steps USPS has submitted the TM Specification CRs to the IDEAlliance to support Web Services and mail.dat functionality.  USPS is working internally and with the IDEAlliance to develop a schedule to deploy the mail.dat and Web Services. USPS will expand the pilot to all mailers in January 2007  Communicate USPS need for advance notification of Periodicals mail to all mailers for all FAST facilities  Enable electronic advanced notification via mail.dat for recurring appointments  Enable Web Services messaging to support Periodicals
