2 An introduction to STAR STAR is a 4 year programme… …that aims to increase the capacity of civil society organisations working on HIV/AIDS and micro-finance… …in Eastern and Southern Africa.. …to effectively apply ICTs to attain their goals. STAR is a public private partnership between Hivos and Dutch telecom KPN

3 The long and winding road to a ppp – Finding the right match: a win-win(-win) – It was a very long trajectory – Getting a ppp takes time, trust, match, sponsor – Cannot be forced, willingness is key – Pilot is important for making it tangible and testing the model

4 First experiences from the co-operation – The co-operation draws attention, and funding – Positive energy within KPN and Hivos - and expanding –Taking the time to get to know each other, continuous evaluation, iterative process – Partners have to learn their new role –Very time intensive from both sides –Growing involvement within KPN –Investing in selection and training of volunteers

5 Status activities August 2006 – HIV/AIDS-part is active on: SMS-bulktool Hiv/aids games Child helpline (Malawi) Infocentre (Mozambique) KPN team for VFG-campaign (Netherlands) –Micro Finance conference September (Kenya)Currently 4 teams working on projects Hiv/aids
