IBA WHAT ? Interest Based Approach January 8 through 12, 1993 (5- day training session ) 24 district members of the negotiating teams staff / 3 Board members participated HUGE success ! Early agreement development Commitment to the process for future negotiations / discussions. Benefits better communications, improved understanding, and enhanced relationships built on mutual trust and respect.

IBA Mission “ Our mission is to use the principles of interest based communications and decision making to create an environment in which individuals participate fully, feel respected and receive recognition for the contributions they make.”

FOUNDATIONS OF IBA Values : Rationality, Truthfulness, Legitimacy, Reliability Assumptions : Relationships are as important as substance, maybe more so. All parties to an issue can meet their interests. Open and frank discussion expands possibilities. Cooperation produces better results than contention.

IBA Workshop Goals To increase the understanding and promote the use of the interest based approach to communication and decision making within the Los Rios Community College District.

IBA Workshop Objectives To introduce attitudes, skills, and practices which promote effective staff relationships. To encourage essential elements of effective negotiations. To provide tools and techniques for effective communication, decision making, and consensus building.

IBA Workshop Objectives To develop strategies for building trust and reducing conflict. To provide avenues for continuous improvement for processes and relationship activities.
