Isolation Intro: Before modern technology, China was isolated from the rest of the world. As a result, China developed a unique culture. This is evident in Chinese writing, philosophy, and religions. (Basically European and Western culture was unable to diffuse to the region until recently).

Ethnocentrism, or the attitude that one’s own group is superior to other groups prevented the adoption of outside cultures.
