Public Schools of Petoskey The PLC District Focus for November 2007 Math is Everywhere!

District Goal Improve district math scores 6% by the fall of 2008.

Our Math Target

How?

Create a Positive Attitude Math is engaging. Math makes connections. Math is possible. Math is a universal language.

Math Engagement Make mathematics real and welcoming. Increase the opportunities to use the math a student knows. Make math hands- on in real-life scenarios. Think math- now and for the future.

Math Connections Show how math is connected in every field of study. Point out how math is used in sports, newspapers, the foods we eat, etc. Connect math to the wonders of nature.

Math Possibilities Careers Daily life Mental Math Calculators Computers

Math Language Numeracy is shared by all humans- across continents & time. Math helps people make better daily decisions. Adding costs is the same process whether in dollars, yen, or rubles.

Math Across the Curriculum Point out math ideas and concepts. Link math into daily lessons. Make math a normal part of the school day, even when not in math class.
