Location The Montevetrano company estate is located on the slopes of the Picentini Mountains Regional Park. Along with San Cipriano, the Picentino valley is formed by other new towns which extend to the rear edge of Salerno, in a mountainous territory rich in history and ancient cultures. The urban structure of these small nuclei has been shaped by nature, with houses built up along the mountain slopes and integrated into the land, passed through by the clear waters of the Picentino river. The natural heritage of the area includes the biggest forest expanse in southern Italy: forests of oak, chestnut and hazelnut to vineyards, citrus plants and olive trees.

Location The Montevetrano estate now spans 65 acres, of which around 13 are vineyards, planned for expansion to 15 acres. The areas cultivated at present are at 330 feet above sea level, in different zones. The vineyards stretch beneath the Montevetrano medieval castle and along the plains, bordering the edge of the chestnut forest. The perimeters are marked by rows of mulberry bushes. Antique roses border the rows of the “vigna del cavallo”, at the same altitude as the farmhouse.

History The Azienda Agricola Monteverano was born years ago through the experimental enthusiasm of a group of friends who shared a passion for wine, stemming from the legendary Bordeaux wines of the era. The estate was purchased in the 40’s by the “Imparato grandparents”, it produced fruit, nuts, wine and oil for family use. In 1985, the near 5 acres of land were used to plant Aglianico Taurasi, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot onto Barbera, Per’è palummo (Piedirosso) and Troia grape

History In 1991, the very first bottles of Montevetrano were produced, just for friends, from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Aglianico. Silvia Imparato decided to rebuild the estate and create an outstanding iconic wine. With the help of friend and consultant Riccardo Cotarella, she has built this estate into an example of quality and dedication, crafting a truly unique wine

Philosophy A wine of sheer purity and elegance. Derived from Imparato’s personal vision and dedication to producing an iconic wine that is structured, complex, refined, and elegant while retaining its regional features. What was born as an esoteric experiment, has become a benchmark for noble wines from Southern Italy and a true Icon of Italian winemaking.

Owner Silvia Imparato Used to be a celebrity photographer At the end of the 1980’s, Silvia Imparato decides to produce her own wine and became a winemaker. Silvia is considered a grape variety pioneer of winegrowing in Campania, as hardly anyone before her had dared try French grape varieties. Derived from Imparato’s personal vision and dedication to producing an iconic wine that is structured, complex, refined, and elegant while retaining its regional features. What was born as an esoteric experiment, has become a benchmark for noble wines from Southern Italy and a true Icon of Italian winemaking.

Behind the Label Silvia Imparato The “Boss” of a group for which she holds pride, dignity and adulation. Riccardo Cotarella A real star. Ever the bold, risk-taking oenologist, he works with tenacity and thorough research, a large part of the results deriving from his hard work. Domenico La Rocca A fine cellarman native to Montevetrano, he looks after the cellar and vineyard. Patrizia Marziale The serious, hands-on, light-hearted yet tenacious assistant to Silvia Imparato. Alessia Cesareo Without her smile, competence and patience… where would we be?

Building The Brand 1.Montevetrano is a small zone in the hills near the commune of San Cipriano Picentino, not far from Salerno. This specific and unique terroir is the foundation of this special wine. 2.One of the first wines to break into top tier recognition for modern Campania winemaking. 3.Montevetrano is a collaboration between Silvia Imparato and consultant Riccardo Cotarella. 4.Established iconic reputation. 5.According to the Wine Advocate “it remains a benchmark in Southern Italian enology”.

Montevetrano Colli di Salerno IGP 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Aglianico Montevetrano takes its name from a medieval castle that has structural origins dating back to Roman times. Intense bouquet of blackberries, cedar, black currant, licorice, tobacco, earth and leather. On the palate, it is full-bodied, yet elegant with fine-grained tannins and rich, silky texture. Pairs beautifully with robust, savory dishes-- aged steak, pot roasts, beef stews and cassoulet.

Core 100% Aglianico Core (pronounced Kor-Ay) is local dialect for “heart”, and the label evokes the love of life, and wine that is the spirit of Montevetrano. Displays aromas of red fruits and spices with undertones of licorice, earth, and leather. This wine makes an excellent pairing with roasted lamb, grilled tenderloin, braised ossobuco and ripe cheeses.
