Our Question: “What qualities make an effective leader?” We chose this topic because we thought it might come up in the future in our workplaces. We also thought researching this topic will help us recognize good leaders surrounding us.

Some Other Relevant Questions Are.. Why do leaders need the ability to communicate well? Does gender matter when leading groups? Should leaders be feared or liked? Does a leader really need to be organized? Who are good leaders?

Their Eyes Were Watching God Was written by Zora Neale Hurston in 1937 is about a character named Janie. We focused on this main character because she had the most effective leadership qualities.

Was Janie an Effective Leader? Yes, because…  She didn’t let the gossip of the other women get to her  She didn’t let her husband’s hurtful words affect her  She stood up for herself against Tea Cake No, because…  She made impulsive decisions without thinking them through  She let her husbands over-power her

Things Fall Apart Was written by Chinua Achebe in 1958 and the main character is Okonkwo. We chose to analyze Okonkwo because we thought he was the best leader in the book.

Was Okonkwo an Effective Leader? Yes, because…  He was a very confident man  He was self-critical when it came to his emotion  He was respected No, because…  He used physical force more than necessary  He never showed compassion  He got over-thrown by the missionaries

What Do You Think? Do you think Janie and Okonkwo had effective leadership skills?  If yes, then tell us why and what they were.  If no, then tell us why and explain.  Which has more effective leadership qualities?
