Team Presentation Skills e-Learning Task 1 In order to present well as a team it is important to understand the different styles of group decision making. Based on the descriptions below, identify the correct style of group decision making: a)Decision making style: Two-person decisions Sometimes, one person proposes an idea that is strongly supported by another team member. Their level of enthusiasm may prevent others from objecting and a group decision can be made based on this. However, if you really disagree with the idea, it is better to speak up. Otherwise, you will have to abide by the decision made. 26

Team Presentation Skills b)Decision making style: Consensus taking This refers to when all members in a team are able to come to a harmonious agreement. This process may be time- consuming but as it is a decision everyone agrees to, your team will experience a high level of cooperation and commitment to the decision made. 27

Team Presentation Skills c)Decision making style: One-person decisions This can occur when an individual in the team is well respected and liked by all team members. When he/she makes a statement or announcement, other team members may not voice their objections because they trust his/her opinion. Hence, a decision is made. 28

Team Presentation Skills d)Decision making style: Majority vote This involves making a group decision by a show of hands. The decision is made by the majority of votes. Although this is a very quick and popular way to arrive at decisions, those in the winning majority must be sensitive to the views of the minority. 29

e-Learning Task 2 Arrange the following in the correct order. __2__ Assign each segment to a specific speaker. __1__ Examine the content of your presentation and decide at which logical points the information can be segmented. __5__Check that all segments support the team theme. __3__Confirm the sequence of speakers. __4__ Decide how much time each speaker should spend on his/her segment. __6__ Ensure that there are neither glaring gaps nor overlaps in the information presented by each speaker. 30

Good slides use a consistent design template to show that the presentation is a team effort. Good slides use appropriate diagrams to explain technical details. Good slides adopt a uniform font style throughout. Good concluding slides sum up key points for the audience. 31

e-Learning Task 4 a)T b)F c)T d)F e)T (b) This need not always be the case; the speaker can choose to handle his/her own visual aids. (d) The team should simulate the physical layout of the venue and equipment if the venue is not available during rehearsals. 32

e-Learning Task 5 List the techniques of capturing the attention and interest of the audience. posing a question making a startling statement or interesting fact using a humorous story or anecdote appropriate to the topic 33

e-Learning Task 6 To ensure a seamless transition between speakers, what phrases can you use? “I have just elaborated on (main point just covered). Now, my teammate, (name of following speaker), will tell you more about (main point to be covered)” at the close of one segment. Alternatively, the speaker who follows after another can say something like “Thank you (name of preceding speaker) for discussing (main point(s) of preceding speaker). I will now elaborate on (main point to be covered). 34
