Presentation transcript:

 Judaism is the mother religion of Christianity and Islam.  Jewish scripture is also sacred for Christians and Muslims.  The three main Western religions share many common beliefs, values, and morals.  All three Western religions are “prophetic religions” (a prophet is a spokesperson for God)

 All three religions are generally theist: meaning that they believe that there is a God and that that God is knowable through divine revelation  Belief in one God who created the world and is the final Judge of people (forbids the worship of “false gods”).  God created humans and it is our duty to obey God.  Humans only have one life to live and have the freedom to choose to serve God.  Belief in a final judgement day

 Who started Judaism? Abraham and Moses  Where did it start? The Middle East (Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Egypt)  What do Jews believe? There is One God who cares about humans.  When did it start? 1700 – 1280 BCE ?
