Challenge Verb/noun: Something requiring effort  My brother challenged me to a race.  I accepted the challenge of starting a new life in a foreign country. N.: Challenger: smn. who challenges Adj.: Challenging/challenged  The assignment was challenging.  The challenged child still excelled in her school work.

Dependent Adj.: relying on smn. or sth.  I am dependent on my parents for financial support.  My future is somewhat dependent on a government loan for my education. Verb: depend on  I depend on eight hours of sleep. Noun. Smn. who depends  On my tax return, I listed my elderly mother-in-law as a dependent since I take care of her.

Fertile Adj.: able to produce  The soil in northern Alberta is very fertile  She has a fertile imagination. Noun.: fertility  The venus of Willendorf is an ancient fertility goddess
