GETTING TO KNOW YOUR IPAD – UPDATED FOR IOS 7 Presented by: Heidi Bjerke & Julie Feit Educational Technology Coaches

External Buttons and Controls On/Off, Sleep/Wake Screen Rotation Lock/Mute (you can change this in the settings) Volume up/down Home

Charging your iPad Charging your iPad: the iPad requires 10 Watts to charge (most computers will not charge the iPad while connected to the iPad through the USB Port)

Settings General Autolock Passcode Lock – school ipad – do not SET UP!!! About Name Sound Brightness and Wallpaper – personalize yours Apps are listed here. There are many options here – ask me if you have questions.

Native Apps You cannot delete native apps. But you can move them and/or place them in folders.

Dock (at Bottom screen) You can have up to six apps at the bottom. You can personalize this.

Folders Create folders by pressing on an app until the x appears and then move the app onto the one you want to group it with. There is no longer a limit on the number.

Screenshot Really useful tip to capture work created in apps that do not allow you to save. Press the LOCK button (top right) and the HOME button at the same time. The screen flashes and the screenshot will appear in your Photos camera roll.

Multitasking Features Use four or five fingers to: Pinch to the home screen Swipe left or right between apps.

Keyboard Split You can pull apart the keyboard and pinch it back together. In either orientation mode.

Closing Apps Double Click the Home button - this reveals all of the open apps (you may have to scroll through to see them!) Sweep the app up to close it

Guided Access (limit users to only one app) Turn it on: Go to Settings –> General --> Accessibility --> Learning - -> Guided Access Once started, only allows one app to run, no exit allowed Triple click the home button to turn on and turn off Helps with keeping students focused on using one app

Cleaning your iPad For optimum performance – you need to keep the screen clean. Use an electronics safe cloth ie. Microfiber DO NOT USE CLOROX or other chemical wipes.

Forced Restart It doesn't happen often but when everything freezes or crashes it is useful to be able to force the iPad to restart. In order to do this: Hold down LOCK button (top right) and the HOME button. Continue to hold it down until you see the Apple logo. Make sure you release the buttons as soon as the logo appears. You have forced your iPad to reboot.

AirDrop To share content with AirDrop, both users need one of the following devices using iOS 7: iPhone 5 or later iPad (4th generation) iPad mini iPod touch (5th generation) AirDrop transfers information using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
