PIPE LINE SYSTEM Series Pipe Line System Class I Class II Class III Parallel Pipe Line System

Example Class I problem Calculate the power supplied to the pump shown below if its efficiency is 76 percent. Methyl alcohol at 25 oC is flowing at the rate of 54.0 m3 /hr. The suction line is a standard 4-in Schedule steel pipe, 15 long. The total length of 2-in Schedule 40 steel pipe in the discharged line is 200 m. Assume that the entrance from reservoir 1 is through a square-edged inlet and that the elbows are standard. The valve is a fully open globe valve. [33.2 kW]

Example Class II problem Water at 80 oF is being supplied to an irrigation ditch from an elevated storage reservoir as shown below. Calculate the volume flow rate of water into the ditch. [0.027 m3/s]

Example Class III problem Figure below shows a part of a chemical processing system in which prophyl alcohol at 25o C is taken from the bottom of a large tank and transferred by gravity to another part of the system. The length between the two tanks is 7.0 m. A filter is installed in the line and is known to have a resistance coefficient K of 8.5 based on the pipe velocity head. Drawn stainless steel tubing having a roughness  of 3.0 x10-5 m is to be used. Specify the standard size of tubing which would allow a volume flow rate of 150 L/min. [ 11/4 – in]
