Rikki-Tikki-Tavi Literary Analysis

Prompt Discuss two (or more) conflicts that Rikki-Tikki faces in story and tell how it advances the plot of the story. Use specific details (text evidence) to support your response.

FATPig  Format: Expository (explain the conflicts)  Audience: Potential readers of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi  Topic: Conflict, Rikki-Tikki, Text Evidence, Advances the plot  Purpose: Inform about conflicts in story/persuade with text evidence  Plan: Use the white plot paper that we completed in class

Introduction Paragraph  Hook – reel in the audience with an interesting statement.  Introduce the story by stating the title and the author  Give a QUICK summary (3 sentences)  Thesis Statement =Topic + Claim (belief about the topic) + Supporting Point(s) How can a clown fish have time to be funny when he is facing so many problems every day? The movie, “Finding Nemo” by Andrew Stanton tells a lovely story about father and son. A young clown fish named Nemo is captured by divers and his father searches the entire ocean looking for him. The father, Marlin, then meets a forgetful fish named Dory that helps on his adventure. In the end of father finds his son, but not without encountering many conflicts along the way. Two conflicts that Marlin and Dory face during the movie are the sharks, and the jellyfish.

Body Paragraphs  Use STOPLIGHT paragraphs  Topic Sentence: WHAT is the conflict  Explain the conflict: WHY is this a conflict?  Introduce and give the quote: Use green slip to help you introduce  Stop: Explain HOW you know this is a conflict (what type). Explain how it advances the plot.  Go Back: Restate the conflict 0 The first conflict is that Marlin and Dory face are the sharks. This is a problem because sharks can be very deadly to fish if the sharks are hungry. Marlin and Dory are in trouble because Dory hurts her nose and begins to bleed. Sharks love the smell of blood and begin to go after Dory. The character said, “’Dory, are you okay...?’[Sniffs the blood; his eyes turn black] ‘Ooooooooo, that's good...’ (Stanton 50). This event advances the plot because Marlin and Dory escaped the sharks making them closer to finding Nemo. This also advances the story because Marlin is able to get over his fear of sharks by facing them head on. Battling and escaping the sharks is just one of the conflicts that Marlin and Dory have to face.

Text Evidence Finding information in the TEXT to support the question or PROMPT that is being asked. Prompt: Harry Potter is a famous wizard. How does J.K. Rowling let the audience know that Harry Potter is a famous wizard. Think about the question first and then go back to a scene where it specifically identifies the idea of Harry Potter being a wizard.

Internal Citations 0 “’Harry – yer a wizard’ said Hagrid” (Rowling 50). 0 “Harry sat and gasped; the glass front of the boa constrictor’s tank had vanished” (Rowling 28). This shows that Harry is a parsel-tongue, meaning he can talk to snakes, which is only a feature that certain wizards can have. 0 What will the intext/internal citation look like for Rikki?

Concluding Paragraph  Restate the thesis with new words  Give a review of the story without using “I” “me” “my”, etc…  End with a clincher that leaves your audience wanting more. The conflicts of facing the sharks and the jellyfish make them stronger and confident for the rest of their lives. Finding Nemo is a great story that brings together father and son. Now that these clown fish have nothing to worry about they can start their stand-up comedy careers!
