New After School Programs Kingsland Chess Fibo Coding classes in addition to Fibo Art Math Olympiad Odyssey of the Mind Kingsland Chess – full semester program instead of just 6-8 week class Fibo Coding is teaching beginning computer programming in a fun and engaging way Math Olympiad – competition team as well as a younger prep team Odyssey of the Mind – inquiry problem based challenges that students work together to creatively solve Information on website or call school office for details

S T E M (STEAM) Science Technology Engineering (Art) Mathematics Stem is a curriculum based on the idea of educating student in four specific disciplines. It is an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Instead of these subjects being taught separately, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications. www.livescience.com By 2018, projections estimate the need for 8.65 million workers in STEM-related jobs. Critical thinking skills, group collaboration skills, creative problem solving skills are what’s needed for our students to be successful in their future. Look to your children’s future – information is exploding – learning is not about remember facts but problem solving and thinking critically Successful students of future will have creativity, creative thinking and problem solving skills and work well with others STEM/STEAM meets the needs of tomorrow by teaching not just one answer or specific knowledge, but teaches critical thinking, creativity, problem solving and teamwork skills
STEM at Evergreen Evergreen’s outstanding 5th grade Robotics Program is a perfect example of STEM education. STEM education focuses on the introductory level and awareness of STEM courses. STEM includes standards-based structured inquiry- based and real world problem-based learning. STEM projects are engaging and fun for students while teaching critical thinking, problem solving and cooperative group skills. Robotics – engaging, challenge based Teachers are amazed at the thinking, teamwork and skills the student get from Robotics and they LOVE it! Robotics is so successful in 5th grade, we wanted to expand STEM to all grade levels 5 highly rated national STEM programs – only one is taught during the school day Provides engaging fun project based learning at all grades K-12
Project Lead The Way- Launch! Teachers attended training – Moritz, Stark, Warren 8 am – 11 pm learning curve straight up, put through the wringer, but came away so passioate about this for EVG – this is going to be great for our kids, take their thinking to the next level, really push our students to think and creative and work together
PLTW at Evergreen PLTW continues at South Pointe Middle School and Diamond Bar High School Evergreen Community Club - $10,000 WVUSD - $25,000 PLTW Lead Teachers trained this summer: Mrs. Moritz, Mrs. Stark, Mrs. Warren Need $25,000 for more materials and technology to reduce student group size to provide more student engagement and learning Asking Evergreen families to donate $50 per student to fully implement PLTW Launch this year
