Quality Assurance 2010 In 2010 all existing VCAL providers will be required to submit: the VCAL strand allocated by the VCAA and VCAL Reading and Writing unit (highest level delivered) There are no changes to the quality assurance arrangements for new VCAL providers in 2010 CVCAL providers will be required to participate in the QA process as a separate provider

Community VCAL When a community VCAL provider is delivering the entire VCAL program on behalf of a school that community provider must be: Registered with the VRQA as a senior secondary provider Authorised to deliver the VCAL by the VCAA
Community VCAL VASS is currently being upgraded to reflect CVCAL provision In 2010 VASS will allow the home school to record that the certificate or unit/s is being delivered by an authorised external provider Providers will not be able to enrol VCAL students until the end of January 2010
New VCAL Unit A new VCAL unit - Skills for Further Study has been developed The one semester unit is at the Senior level Trial at 6 pilot providers - Semester 1,2010 The unit will contribute to the VCAL as a general credit. It will not contribute to any of the existing strands Anticipated that it will be available from Semester 1 2011
Skills for Further study cont .. Skills for Further Study learning outcomes focus on: organising personal and work priorities development of strategies for learning research and citation skills pathway planning preparation of a portfolio oral presentation on topic related to further study
VCAL Senior Extension Program Currently only available in three approved schools Developed for students who have completed either Senior VCAL or VCE and who wish to undertake intensive folio preparation for entrance to further education programs Three units: Folio Enhancement & Presentation Advanced Study Skills Pathways Planning Review undertaken in 2010
Work Related Skills Units VET units may be used to meet the eligibility requirement for the WRS and ISS strands. If a student has completed 200 hours of a VET certificate, 100 hours will be used to meet the ISS strand and the remaining 100 hours may be used to meet the WRS strand requirement Structured work placement may be used to meet some or all of the learning outcomes for WRS.
Changes to be implemented in 2010 From 2010 the following changes will apply VCE Accounting will no longer meet the eligibility strand requirement for VCAL Numeracy Skills VCE Environmental Science will meet the eligibility strand requirement for VCAL Numeracy Skills Any E rated units (Credit Matrix) in the new Certificate in Vocational Preparation will not make a contribution to the VCAL
VCAL Achievements Awards Guidelines and application now available on the VCAA website Applications close on 4 December, 2009 This year there is a new award - VCAL Teacher of the Year Encourage all providers to consider submitting an application If submitting an application please ensure that all nominees have signed the application form
