After all that, the match ended in a tie. CONSTRUCTIVE RESPONSE QUESTION

Ch. 6 The French Fact # 6 The Cote des Allemands or German Coast became a well populated area along the Mississippi River just north of New Orleans. These farmers were hard working and they saved the colony by growing enough food to keep people from starving.

Ch. 6 The French Fact # 7 More farmers were needed however the next group were not like the Germans. Prisoners were being sent to the colony instead of to jail. At first it was debtors and smugglers but later it became dangerous criminals who were unwilling to work. The Company was paying a “finders fee” for finding possible colonists for Louisiana.

Ch. 6 The French Fact # 8 Colonists complained that the company wasn’t sending enough flour, sugar, fabric, wine, shirts, or shoes. When goods were available they cost four times the rate in France. The lack of flour was a major problem. When some finally got to the colony they were able to make “proper” bread.

Ch. 6 The French Fact # 9 Even while Law was promising huge profits from the colony, Louisiana struggled with shortages and hardships. Finally in 1721 people had had enough and the company collapsed – it was called “the collapse of the Mississippi Bubble”.

Ch. 6 The French Fact # 10 When the scheme crashed so did the world of John Law. The man who once advised Kings had to escape in disgrace. The Company stayed on but did not deliver what Bienville and the colony needed – good soldiers, dependable settlers, and a good export crop.
