Where do hurricanes form? Over land Over mountains Over oceans Over lakes

Over oceans

Which of these tools measures air pressure? An anemometer A rain gauge A weather vane A barometer

What is precipitation? A collection of tiny water drops seen in the air Water that falls to the ground from the atmosphere Layers of gases and dust that surround Earth The measurement of how hot or cold something is

Water that falls to the ground from the atmosphere

A powerful storm that forms over land and looks like a funnel is a Hurricane Twister Tornado blizzard

Tornado

Which of the following affects climate? Sand and rocks Windsocks and air Weather vanes and balloons Oceans and mountains

A(n) __________ is a collection of tiny water drops or ice crystals in the air.

cloud

Snow, sleet, and rain are examples of __________

precipitation

A(n) __________ has a ball-like shape.

sphere

The air temperature is one characteristic of __________

weather

Water moves from Earth’s surface into the atmosphere and back again in a process called the __________

Water cycle

Times of the year with different weather patterns are __________

seasons

A(n) __________ is a long, severe snowstorm.

blizzard

The air that surrounds Earth is a part of the __________

atmosphere

A funnel cloud is a distinct characteristic of a(n) __________

tornado

When a(n) __________ moves from the ocean onto land, its strong winds and heavy rains can cause severe damage.

hurricane

At what temperature does water freeze? –50° F –0° F –32° F –10° F

–32° F

It is raining outside and the temperature has suddenly dropped to 25° F. What do you think will happen and why?

The rain will probably change to snow. Once the temperature drops below the freezing level of 32° F, the precipitation will turn to snow.

The temperature outside is 80° F at 6:00pm. Will the temperature rise or drop by 10:00pm?

The temperature will drop by 10:00pm because by that time in the evening the Sun will have set. Without the Sun’s energy, the air temperature cools.

Explain what a tornado is.

A tornado is a small, powerful storm that forms over land. It looks like a big, tall funnel. Tornados can be very destructive. Tornados have powerful winds that move in a circle.

There is a strong wind blowing in from the north. You are riding your bicycle. Would it be easier for you to ride your bicycle toward the north or toward the south? Why?

It would be easier to ride a bicycle toward the south because you would be riding with the wind as it works with you.
