Politics: Austria-Hungary The King in 1918 was Charles IV and he died on March 9, The government was a monarchy

Politics: Czechoslovakia Thomas Masaryk was the president during the 1930’s. The government was a democracy.

Politics: Hungary Béla Imrédy was the prime minister during the WWII who worked with the nazi’s. The government was a democracy

Religion In Austria-Hungary, Hungary and Czechoslovakia the dominant religion is Roman Catholic. The Soviet Union is Russian Orthodox Ukraine’s religion is Orthodox Christianity. Only Hungary did not tolerate Jews.

Economy In Austria-Hungary the main currency was the Krone. Some major products included tobacco, manufactured goods, and fuels Jews were openly allowed to participate. Ernest’s parents even owned a store.

Education Jewish boys would go to a school named Cheder at 6:30 and pray at 8:30 Then they would go to normal school where they would sometimes learn the opposite of what they had learned that morning.
