Presentation transcript:

Part I: Theory “Immediacy, Hypermediacy, and Remediation” July 5, 2011

 Immediacy Definition?

Immediacy Bolter and Grusin define it as the promise of “experience without mediation”(23)

 Hypermediacy Definition?

Hypermediacy Bolter and Grusin explain that “the logic of hypermediacy acknowledges multiple acts of representation and makes them visible”(33-34).

 Remediation Definition?

Remediation Bolter and Grusin define it as “the representation of one medium in another” or as a kind of “refashioning” of a medium (45).

Part I: Theory “Immediacy, Hypermediacy, and Remediation” Keywords Each pair will receive two keyword cards. Fully define these keywords as they are discussed in this chapter. Then describe how they connect to Immediacy, and/or Hypermediacy, and/or Remediation in a way that demonstrates your understanding of these central terms. In addition, find a visual example of how the term works and post your findings on the blog. Be sure to include all group members’ names in the post. After that, each group will present their blog post to the group.

Part I: Theory “Immediacy, Hypermediacy, and Remediation” Remediation Mapping Each group will be given an artifact. Your job, as a group, is to uncover the types of media each artifact might be remediating— push yourselves to come up with as many possibilities as you can, using your book as a resource. Tell us, also, if it represents hypermediacy or immediacy and why you think so. Post your findings on the blog including the link to your artifact.

Part I: Theory “Immediacy, Hypermediacy, and Remediation” Editor’s Notebook As readers and editors of this book, what feedback do you have on this chapter? What works? What doesn’t? What needs to be updated? What needs to go? Take a few minutes to write down your thoughts/flip through the chapter again and we’ll discuss your ideas together.
