Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic Centre Brno

Who we are  Activity from 1 st January 2001  Act. No. 257/2000 Coll. PMS CZ is a governmental organisation that ensures the control over the execution of punishments not connected to jail sentences, prepares the basis for imposing the sentences and offers the possibility to mediate a meeting of the perpetrator and the victim on the arrangement of consequences of the crime. It is an institution that connects experience of two professions: social work and law, especially penal law. These activities are ensured by probation officers and assistants.

Objectives of the PMS CZ Integration of the perpetrator – leading the perpetrator towards a lifestyle in accordance with law. Participation of the aggrieved party – support to the victim in the process of solving the consequences of the crime and in regaining the feeling of security and trust in the justice. Defence of the society – effective control over the execution of punishments and measures preventing the danger of relapses.

To whom the services are dedicated  adults  youngsters  children younger than 15  accused  convicted  victims  family members

Services of the PMS  mediation  probation (alternative punishments – OPP, TDV, TZV, and others)  cooperation with convicted to exceptional prison sentences (parole)  cooperation with victims

Mediation  in preliminary procedures (occasionally in execution)  in the context of domestic violence – specific situation  rather inappropriate

Probation supervision  modified especially in § of the Penal Code  control during the trial period – work, place of living etc.  regular personal contact with the probation officer  fulfilment of obligations and adherence to restrictions  focus on the complete social situation of the client  help to the victims and aggrieved persons – counselling

Supervision – specificities of DV  more intensive contact – with the perpetrator and the victim  more frequent visits – at the centre and in the place of living  often abuse of alcohol (starter) - testing  dominance of control over help
