Inspiration & Initiation For my project, I wanted to help less-fortunate kids during Christmas time. At first I thought about collecting toys to give to the children staying at the Penelope House. My counselor and I were discussing some ideas, and she told me about The Home of Grace which is a home for women recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. I chose to work with the Home of Grace because it is like the theme of the Red Ribbon Service Project, “A Healthy Me is Drug Free”. It is close to my community, and I could still help the women’s children at Christmas time by collecting toy donations.

Goal of My Project My goal was to collect at least 116 toys for boys and girls of all ages. I created a donation box and walked around with it at my school every day.

How I Achieved My Goal I got the word out. I made sure I told everybody about my project. Everyday I went to classes explaining my project and asking for donations.

Picking up generous donations from Coastal Pawn in Tillman’s Corner.

The collection of toys we received in less than three weeks!

Loading the bus with toys to deliver to the Home of Grace.

A picture of our group with the director of the Home of Grace.

Charts that I made showing the toy drive results.

Leaving an Impact I’m really glad I did this project because it made me feel proud and happy that I helped those women. It makes me want to help people again.
