Challenge Day By Isabelle Laxamana

How Fossils Are Formed Firstly, I learned that fossils are formed when layers of dirt go over the skeleton. Also, the tyrannosaurus rex’s skeleton before were thought to stand upright but later studies show they actually stood semi upright and are lizard hipped- dinosaurs. I had fun digging up fossils with a brush and matching them with moulds. We match the fossil with moulds so that we know who the fossil belongs to.

What Palaeontologists Do Next, I learned that Palaeontologists study dinosaurs which I find very interesting They use explosives, spades and brushes to find fossils, but Palaeontologists need to be careful because fossils are delicate. After they find fossils, Palaeontologists examine them and match them with dinosaurs.

Acrostic Poem After that, I have created an acrostic poem using the word PALAEONTOLOGIST. We didn’t get to finish it because we ran out of time.

Fossil Types In addition, fossils could be classified in two types; mould and rock fossils. The mould fossils are formed when the dinosaur makes print on the ground like a footprint. The print is buried but isn’t destroyed. When the fossil is found, the Palaeontologist covers the fossil with plastic to protect it. The rock fossils are formed when the dinosaur’s bone is sunken into the rock and Palaeontologist opens the rock with a special tool and inside is the bone.

Conclusion I had a fun day and learned a lot about fossils and at the same time made new friends.
